Guidance for API

In Denmark, a decision has been made to require the presentation of the API according to industry standards. This means that dynamic and static data about publicly available charging points and refueling stations for alternative fuels must be presented in the API format that follows the specified.

Data-exchange

(Applikation Programming Interface, API)

The decision to use industry standards for APIs to make data available has been made to ensure standardized data sharing. With the implementation of AFIR across the EU, it is expected that industry standards for data exchange will be increasingly aligned with the requirements set by AFIR. Similarly, the market for alternative fuels is constantly evolving. To ensure that data for alternative fuels in Denmark keeps up with this development, the API format in the specified industry standard must be in the latest version, or during a transitional period, in the version just prior to the latest.

  • For data on charging electric vehicles and other electric-powered vehicles, the latest version of the Open Chargepoint Interface (OCPI) is established as the industry standard to make the data available
  • For refueling with biogas, data must be made available in the latest version of the API according to the industry standard for data exchange.

  • For refueling with hydrogen, data must be made available in the latest version of the API according to the industry standard for data exchange.

Technical specifications

API for charging station data

For OCPI, the following information must be provided on The Data Exchange Platform to comply with the AFIR Regulation's requirements regarding the API:

  • IDRO
  • Information about CREDENTIALS_TOKEN_A
  • Versions endpoint; URL to production-environment
  • Voluntary: Information on Access to the Test Environment

OCPI-specification

  • OCPI-version: Fromdecember 2024 is OCPI 2.2.1 the newest version.
  • The data must comply with the OCPI specification.

The Commission's delegated acts have been delayed in their adoption process. As a result, the requirements for the availability of data types in Article 20(2) of the AFI Regulation, which must be made available by April 14, 2025, are required. To minimize the number of times operators need to change data availability, The Danish Road Traffic Authority encourage compliance with the data requirements in the delegated acts despite their delayed adoption.

Data Requirements

The AFI Regulation sets requirements for which data must be made available via the API, but it is not explicitly stated how the listed data should be presented. In the implementing acts of AFIR, which are currently under consultation, the data content is described in more detail than in the regulation. Once the implementing acts are adopted, the Danish Road Traffic Authority will add a specification to this guidance on how the authority recommends following the API industry standard to best comply with the data requirements described in the AFIR implementing acts. By following these recommendations, the data will become more standardized, ensuring better overall data quality.

Information on changes and development

As described above, the requirement for data exchange is that it follows the development of industry standards and EU requirements. To get information about changes and developments in data exchange requirements, it is recommended to follow the Danish Road Traffic Authority's website, and as an operator or owner of infrastructure for alternative fuels, to subscribe to the Danish Road Traffic Authority's mailing list for operators and owners of alternative fuel infrastructure. You can sign up for the newsletter at the bottom of the page.

Information will be provided when the API version for the industry standard changes, along with the expected parallel operation period. Additionally, updates will be communicated regarding changes to the requirements and recommendations for data content.

Monitoring and evaluation

The Danish Road Traffic Authority continuously monitors compliance with AFIR, both in terms of data access, API requirements, and the data's adherence to AFIR regulations, and evaluates the status for each operator or owner of alternative fuel infrastructure.
